Andrea Christie, bio
Hailed as a "shining star" (La Scena Musicale), Andrea Christie is a Canadian-American pianist with a flair for late-romantic works and a passion for contemporary music. Equally at home as soloist and chamber musician, she is the pianist of The Parhelion Trio with flutist Sarah Carrier and clarinetist Ashleé Miller, praised by The Strad for their "effervescent" playing. She is also one half of the cross-Atlantic ensemble ÆGIRA Duo with violinist Anne Sophie Andersen, lauded for their “acrobatic skills…balancing with precision as if on a deadly knife edge” (Sceneblog.dk). Andrea’s performances have taken her to Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and leading New York City venues including Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Symphony Space, and National Sawdust.
2025-26 season highlights include an album release, Dark Imagining, on Bright Shiny Things with composer Jeff Myers and soprano Rachel Schutz; a series of NYC solo piano recitals featuring music by Whitney George; and collaborations with ChamberQUEER and Express Newark (Rutgers) with concerts in Newark and Fort Lauderdale. Spring 2026 featured premieres of song cycles written for soprano Britt Hewitt and Andrea by Daniel Felsenfeld and Cashel Day-Lewis, and new works for The Parhelion Trio in partnership with the Long Island Composers Alliance.
In August 2026, ÆGIRA Duo premiered their commissioning project Synesthesia and Ritual on a three-city tour of Denmark (Aarhus, Odense, and Copenhagen), featuring new works for violin and piano by American and Danish composers Nirmali Fenn, Sunny Knable, Sophie Søs Meyer, Santiago Rueda-García, and Derek Weagle, alongside a piece co-composed by the duo. Critic Casper Koeller noted the program's strong reception with the Copenhagen audience, singling out the duo's own composition as "energetic and fiercely intense" (Sceneblog.dk).
Andrea’s 2026–27 season includes Fall performances in Norway and Denmark with violinist Eugene Drucker (Emerson String Quartet), mezzo-soprano Susannah Woodruff, and ÆGIRA Duo in collaboration with New Music for Strings Festival; Spring concerts as a guest pianist with [Switch~ Ensemble] as part of multi-day residencies at Overdrive Festival (NYC) and Brown University (Providence); and an album recording with The Parhelion Trio.
Other recent collaborations include performances and projects with The Curiosity Cabinet; Ensemble Abstraktion; sopranos Danielle Buonaiuto, Sharon Harms, and MaKayla McDonald; violinists Theo Espy and Giancarlo Latta; cellists Jules Biber and Deborah Sepe; composer-conductor-sound healer Derek J. Weagle; composer-vocalist Lisa Bielawa; pianist Isabelle O’Connell; and members of Eighth Blackbird, Wet Ink, and The Knights ensembles.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Andrea began her formal training at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where she made her solo orchestral debut at 14 performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. She holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia. Her principal teachers include Germán Diez, Christina Dahl, and Jane Coop. As a recipient of numerous scholarships and fellowships, Andrea has performed in residencies and summer festivals across North America and Europe including the Tanglewood Music Center, the Mozarteum, Academy Prag-Wien-Budapest, Avaloch Farm Institute, International Festival of Contemporary Music at Mannes, Icicle Creek Chamber Music Institute, Vancouver International Song Institute, Orford Academy, and Morningside Music Bridge.
Outside of music, Andrea tends to her plants, dances Argentine tango, and trains in traditional martial arts, where she can be found on the Budo Taijutsu mat on the weekend.
